It’s 9 am and you barely slept. Your eyes are tired from watching all the seven episodes of that series on Netflix. Clumsy room, leftover food and a bare minimum of enthusiasm to start your work. You opened your laptop and realized it’s November. What? Yes, hard realization. You’ll look back and realize you haven’t done anything besides moving from your work desk to the couch. Guilty much? Well, we all are!
The tedious routine, lack of social interaction must have instilled a lot of chaos, negativity and pessimism. That is approximately most of us. The passing time evokes self-doubt. Sticking to your day job, lack of monetary benefits, failing to execute your plans, retrospecting your decisions only adds to you existing crisis. But, is this all your fault? Uhm, probably not.
The pandemic has played us all really bad. The rate of unemployment has shot up. The service industries hit rock-bottom. Many MNCs sacked thousands of their employees. The global economy is expected to shrink by 7%. The COVID-19 deaths have reached a mark of 1.34 million worldwide. According to a report in August 2020, 41 lakh Indian youth lost their jobs. I mean, even the rich are having a crisis in a rich man’s world.
But, every cloud has a silver lining. Many businesses have gone completely digital allowing their employees to work from anywhere in the world. It enhances the chances of getting a job despite having to worry about relocation. The earth got a chance to breathe when humans stayed back home. We also got a chance to introspect. But, did it lead to a slump? The answer is probably yes.
Millennials in the Crisis
Many young adults thriving in their careers are scooted towards a dead end with the sudden setback. Lack of experience in enduring a crisis left them in a conundrum. You might have planned to start a business, switch jobs or study masters abroad but, all your efforts vent in vain. And it is not your fault. The pandemic has contributed to all the things bad in everyone’s life.
Bringing the Best Out of Worst
Your life was full of running. All of our's, to be honest. We were running from school to college, college to a job and a job to whatever we thought was better. We never found time to stay, relax and think. But this is the time. It is the time to introspect your passion, read that book you bought ages ago, start working out to keep your mind and body at peace. Opting a course to upgrade your skills, play that guitar you left in college, talk to your friends from school. These might sound pretty cliche and, most of you must have tried and tired already. But but, were you consistent? Did you complete that course you bought months ago? Did you workout every day? If it is a no, it’s better to get back to the grind. Motivation is hard to find but not impossible. Rope in your friends with similar interests. Take a course together or work out together, virtually. Discuss the topics you learnt. Make your day productive and give no way for guilt.
Bottom Line
If you can’t do them all at once, it is completely alright. Let it take time and don’t rush. Millions have lost their lives, and a few are still battling. If they can make it, you can make it too. Curb your anxiety because, the more we think about something, the bigger it seems and, the more we act, the easier it gets. I don’t know who said it but, it is pretty accurate. The solution to all this is working towards what you want. A small start is what it takes. Thus, a change in the long run. And, it is never too late for a change. So, brace up!
