Generation Z , are technically defined as ( by technically we mean we googled it), it is a generation of people who turned into adults in the second half of the 21st century. The people from this generation are presumed to be handsy with the internet than the others.
Social media no matter how many times you have heard it is the most powerful marketing tool available right now. Social media runs, influences life of people on daily basis in ways we from the outside have no idea about.
Netflix’s most recent documentary “The Social Dilemna” talks about this issue from a depth we never knew existed. The initial idea behind the term social media was to essentially enable an individual to share their ideas and thoughts with the world. The shape social media has taken up right now is what it has gathered all over the years from what users need and their feedback of course.
More than anything this has become a business where humans and information to manipulate them is traded with companies and is sold without their own knowledge. Humans are nothing more than money making machines for these big corporations. It is an advanced form of slavery, if you think.
The Netflix release did cause a stir and started a wave of awareness and caused a lot of people to abandon their social media accounts but that is not going to affect these corporations in any considerable manner. What gave authenticity to the whole operation was the interviews of all the ex employees giving us dirt on how human psyche is analyzed and used to earn money.
If not a threat the documentary on the avid use of social media has sparked a conversation on how adversely these platforms affect the mental health of individuals and not only is the concept of inner joy diminishing but also the dependency on others for approvals on basic aspects of life is appalling.
Social media is here to stay for a long time and we see no reason why we shouldn’t come to an agreement with it. Banishing is not the answer, co-existing well we think it sure is.
