Social media stands true to it’s name. It simply ends up making you social and sometimes a ‘sensation’. Remember the time of ‘dread’ when we all received our first ‘parent’ friend request ? Social media has experienced a big leap in it’s target audience. From our parents getting familiar to the new arena and acing it to the platform helping small businesses ‘Rise and Shine’. The most powerful tool existing right now, social media has the power to alter narratives, change perspectives and in some cases completely change the portrayal of a situation. It is an open source of information .Look closely and you will find your answers.
Baba ka Dhaba, a stall run by an old couple since the prime of their life experienced a large in flow of people days after a very emotionally capturing video of them went on instagram. The video caught everybody right in the feels, it had Mr Kanta Prasad (our very own baba) talk about his struggles and all the food he and his wife prepare with love going to waste because nobody is eating their food. The video went viral and a whole ass line of journalists and bloggers got there to get their own share of limelight. It is a beautiful tool truly if in the right hands.
The platform is no more just for catching up with old friends and connecting with your global family, it is now about creating your own brand and putting yourself on it as you want the world to see you. Social media can literally take you places, if you do not have an existing business to promote, you can start your own thing. You can become anything and everything once you get the hang of the correct way of using the medium. Content can be anything, you can talk about something you feel strongly about or maybe display your fashion sense or just make some funny videos. (Get your confidence from the guy who became popular by not doing anything for straight two hours in his you tube video)
Relatability is what sells. It leads to people creating their own small little groups and communities which is another way of meeting, interacting with people who share your interests and broadening your horizon. Baba Ka Dhaba was a great example of social media marketing. The content was gripping, the characters were realistic and the story was moving. The medium is multipurpose, free and open for all to use. Build your avatar and be ready to launch it in the battle field. You are what you make of yourself and you know you are worth so much more than where you are at right now.
