Designing is not only the skill that helps one in the initiation of a product line it also has a great deal in helping it reach it’s target audience. Every brand logo you see in the internet, says a lot about what they are representing. For example the logo of amazon, the design is not random but has been thought through. The arrow between a and z is a message to people that they have products from a to z i.e everything the people need.
A design does not always have to communicate, sometimes it just has to sit still and look pretty. Colors also play a big role in the image designers and the brand want the consumers to have. Cadbury and purple seem synonymous right ? Purple denotes royalty, the purple background in all the rakshabandhan ads of Cadbury are not random but are all a part of the well planned strategy.
Colors walk hand in hand during the creation of a design. Blue denotes peace, red passion etc etc. Originality though is always welcomed is not always a compulsion. Your designs can be inspired by any living design too and can recreate it with your own take and give credits where they are due in the final product.
It is also very important for a designer to not differentiate themselves too much from the customer. While doing their job they should always continue to survey the product from the eyes of the customer. It is a given that they know the product far better than anybody else but their primary goal should always have the eye of the customer who is going to see it for the first time and appeal to them.
Other important note is to always keep the tone of the brand and the colour palette in mind and work according to it. It is also important that while catching the eye the designs proves to be useful as well. Apple’s new face id technology though designed to offer something which was novel to the world ended up getting racial allegations because it could not differentiate between people of faces in China.
The designers have to undergo a very hard hitting process to get the final product. Another factor which is mostly neglected by companies is the relatability quotient in the design. As important the design as integral it is to the making it is essential that it has the elements audience is able to identify with. It is only when all the components are in the perfect mix is when the design is able to showcase it’s full potential.
